Keep Patricia writing! Bookmark this page and jump from it to the online booksellers for all your book-buying. Above all, we hope you would like to buy some of Patricia Eakins's books, which may not be available at the nearest mall store. To help you satisfy your biblio-lust, on street or online, we've assembled this information for you.

Independent Bookstores

Authors love old-fashioned booksellers, especially the ones who stock their books or will order them for their customers. Booksellers love to sell books, and are always anxious to serve their customers as well as they can. So please patronize your independent bookstore; you can locate the nearest one from the American Booksellers Association's Bookweb listing.

Pierre BaptisteOrdering Pierre Baptiste Online

On the other hand, it's wonderfully convenient to order books online. If you want to order a copy (or several!) of The Marvelous Adventures of Pierre Baptiste right now, you can go directly to the right spot to do it at one of our online partners -- Amazon.com (for Pierre) or Powell's Books (for Pierre). No delay, no hassle: the ultimate in impulse buying.

... And Anthologies Online

Race TraitorAmazon will also be happy to sell you anthologies in which Eakins's work is included. They stock the Race Traitor anthology, which includes Eakins's essay "Manifesto of a Dead Daughter." And they will special-order The Second Word Thursdays Anthology, which includes Eakins's story "The Children of the Two Doors," also available directly from Bright Hill Press. Amazon does not stock the French journal Sources. To obtain the interview by Françoise Palleau, order Issue No. 5 (Autumn '98) from the French publisher, Editions Paradigme, at the address on the journal's web site.

If you can find Transgressions: The Iowa Anthology of Innovative Fiction, edited by by Lee Montgomery, Mary Hussmann, David Hamilton, you can read Eakins's story "The Shade Man" in it. The book is out of print.

Healthcare Ethics Eakins's story "Fertility Zone" appears in an anthology and a textbook. The anthology is Vital Lines: Contemporary Fiction about Medicine, edited by Jon Mukand, MD, (St. Martin's Press), and the textbook is Health Care Ethics and Human Values: An Introductory Text with Readings and Case Studies, edited by Bill KWM Fulford, Donna Dickenson, and Thomas H. Murray (Blackwell Publishing, UK, pb 2002). Vital Lines is out of print but is often available through used book sellers. Health Care Ethics is available through the publisher's Web site.

Online Booksellers for New Titles

Like so many other sites on the Web, we'd love it if you bought your books through us. If you jump from here to our bookseller partners' sites, we get an agency fee, whatever books you buy. It doesn't cost you a penny more, but it helps support fabulara! So please, bookmark this page -- the "fabularetail" page -- and jump from here to buy books, either new or used.

Our partners are Amazon.com for new books and, for both new and used books, Powell's Books (more details below). Which one is for you? Well, we suggest you go to the sites, see what suits you. Amazon has reader reviews and author interviews and a stupendous selection. Powell's has more of an old-fashioned bookstore feel.

Online Booksellers for Out-of-Print Titles

The Hungry GirlsSince The Hungry Girls is out of print, prospective buyers would do well to purchase directly from online used-book sellers, rather than going through a new-book seller. Fabulara has a partnership agreement with Powell's Books in Portland, Oregon, and they do sometimes have copies of The Hungry Girls, so please support your hungry author -- check there first.

Didn't find it? There are some search sites that allow you to check thousands of used-book dealers at a time and comparision-shop among them. Advanced Book Exchange in Victoria, British Columbia, has 4,700 dealers and 11 million books. Bibliofind in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has 4,000 dealers and 10 million books. And Alibris, in San Francisco, has 800 booksellers and 9 million books. You might also want to try Bookfinder.com, a meta-search engine run by Berkeley students, which includes Advanced, Alibris, Bibliocity, Powell's, and even Amazon.
