A workshop to help writers develop powerfully felt images. We will cultivate imaginative awareness of the pleasure of seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, tasting, and moving, as we seek to re-enact in words the freshness, poignancy and relevance of direct experience. Whether you are a fiction writer, a poet, or an essayist; a beginner or one beginning anew, this workshop can help you bring your writing to life. Join us around the table! We'll see what we can learn from each other and from writers such as Diane Ackerman, Paul Auster, Malcolm Lowry, Eudora Welty, James Agee, Kathy Acker, Antonin Artaud, Franz Kafka, and Thoreau. Exercises and craft readings will be tailored to the ongoing work, needs and interests of the class. In addition, each student will receive detailed, constructive revision guidance from the instructor.
